Because our members value learning and continuing professional development, we plan a variety of member learning opportunities each year. For those wanting to develop their leadership skills within the sports diversity community, we offer a special designation track to become a sports diversity leader (SDL). And for those organizations wanting to increase their diversity and inclusion, we also offer a certification program. Our integrated education program is directed by Connie Wardman, M.A., SDLT.
The CSDC hosts a number of webinars and recorded events throughout the year. Our webinars are designed to be interactive, to include as much member participation as possible. The webinars and events are recorded and archived for future members’ use. Please check our calendar for upcoming webinars and recorded events. If you have an idea or suggestion for a webinar topic, please reach out to us anytime
Conferences and Live Events
The CSDC also produces a number of live events throughout the year. In 2019 we will be hosting a Q & A with ASANA commissioner Angela Smith, SDL in Richmond, Virginia on May 17. The Sports Leadership Influencer in Overland Park, Kansas on June 8 will feature speaker Congresswoman Sherice Davids. On October 23 the Sports Diversity Leadership Summit will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona and the Sports Diversity Leadership Conference will be held at the Sin City Classic in Las Vegas on January 15, 2020. Please check our calendar for additional conferences.
Teleconferences and Quarterly Meetings
We offer quarterly teleconferences and meetings for our members and this year we will be hosting scheduled calls in February, May, August and November. Additional teleconferences and meetings are scheduled as members deem necessary.
Some members request one-on-one mentoring and the CSDC is happy to connect members to further their mutual growth. Mentoring is also provided through our designation and certification programs. Please reach out to us if you would like us to arrange a personal mentoring opportunity.
Members wishing to further their diversity training and earn the Sports Diversity Leader (SDL) designation are invited to apply for the SDL designation program. This program ensures that those who complete it have a thorough understanding of the sports diversity leadership process and the ability to further the principles of inclusion, diversity, equality and acceptance in all they do. The program currently requires the individual to complete an application, take eight online courses, provide letters of reference, sign the IDEAL Principles Pledge and complete an interview process. There is a small education fee to earn the SDL designation so please contact
The certification program is designed for organizations committed to diversity at the highest levels. By earning this certification, the program helps organizations access their current diversity outreach, affirm their commitment to diversity and demonstrate their sports diversity leadership. The current certification process requires the organization to employ (or a volunteer) at least one SDL designee, complete an application, sign the IDEAL Principles Pledge and complete two mentoring sessions. There is a certification fee so please contact Eric Carlyle, SDLT or Jared Garduno, SDLT for more information.
