Frequently Asked Questions

What We Do

What is the Compete Sports Diversity Council?

The CSDC is a membership organization comprised of individuals and organizations working together to harness The Power of Sports Community. As a membership community we connect, support, mentor and build our organizations together.

How have you connected members?

We recently connected several of our non-profit sports organizations so that they could create a sports festival together. A second example is that we introduced a non-profit member to a professional football team that resulted in a $5,000+ sponsorship. We have many more stories like this so please just ask us

What is an example of how you suppport members?

We helped one our CVB members raise their MEI (Municipal Equality Index) score from 42 to 92.

What do you mean by "mentor" members?

We often work one-on-one with our members, whether they be individuals or organizations. We have mentored members on fundraising, sponsorships, creating tournament RFPS and more. For example, we will be launching a “tournament in the box” program through a a webinar and will offer individual mentoring on the topic to members as needed.

Can you give an example of building our organizations together?

We provide an open forum for our members to collaborate and support each other. We often introduce members that are experts in a particular area with a member in need. For example, we have members that are experts in municiple grants that are happy to guide members applying for such grants.

Partnerships/Sponsorships

What is the SDL designation?

Members wishing to further their diversity training and earn the Sports Diversity Leader (SDL) designation are invited to apply for the SDL designation program. This program ensures that those who complete it have a thorough understanding of the sports diversity leadership process and the ability to further the principles of inclusion, diversity, equality and acceptance in all they do. The program currently requires the individual to complete an application, take eight online courses, provide letters of reference, sign the IDEAL Principles Pledge and complete an interview process. There is a small education fee to earn the SDL designation so please contact Eric Carlyle, SDLT or Jared Garduno, SDLT for more information.

What is the CSDC certification?

The certification program is designed for organizations committed to diversity at the highest levels. By earning this certification, the program helps organizations access their current diversity outreach, affirm their commitment to diversity and demonstrate their sports diversity leadership. The current certification process requires the organization to employ (or a volunteer) at least one SDL designee, complete an application, sign the IDEAL Principles Pledge and complete two mentoring sessions. There is a certification fee so please contact Eric Carlyle, SDLT or Jared Garduno, SDLT for more information.

What other educational opportunities does the CSDC offer?

The CSDC currently offers the following educational opportunities: Webinars, Conference and Live Events, Teleconferences and Quarterly Meetings, Mentorship, Designation Programs and Certification Programs. For more information click here.
